I'm an accounting clerk. How's the job market?

I%26#039;m going to be permanently laid off in a few weeks. I haven%26#039;t had to look for a job in 3 years. Hows the job market and unemployment rates? Has it changed much?

I%26#039;m an accounting clerk. How%26#039;s the job market?

Not sure about the sure term, but according to the federal government:

%26quot;Employment of bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks is projected to grow by 12 percent during the 2006-16 decade, which is as fast as the average for all occupations. Due its size, this occupation will have among the largest numbers of new jobs arise, about 264,000 over the projections decade.%26quot;

What type of major is suited for someone interested in population change?

I like to read about how and why populations change, I like comparing housing costs and unemployment rates between cities, and so on. What is the best type of field for this type of study. I am thinking that geography, economics, and sociology all cover some aspects of it. But is one of them more suited to the other for what I describe? Thanks.

What type of major is suited for someone interested in population change?

I think sociology is probably most what you are looking for out of the three. I think you should also look at anthropology too. Developmental studies and urban studies might be options as well. Also if you are interested in a certain region you can choose area studies and you can focus on the economics, geography, and people of a specific region (ex. Latin American Studies). Also remember that most colleges allow you to design you own major and you can take the aspects from all the majors that you want and create exactly what you are looking for.

I really liked Maggie Thatcher. Wasn't it good the way she used up our oil in a long term depre

Some countries would have used it for a wholesale regeneration of the infrastructure, but no, she had the insight to see that the big car economy is the way forward!! Much better to keep unemployment rates up around five million and blow it all on the dole payments. Ah, those were the days.

Have to go now, takes me two hours to get through the traffic.

Huh, Margaret Thatcher who raised money by selling off industry. Now, if those industries had remained nationalised, the Royal Mail wouldn%26#039;t be closing post offices all over the country citing costs as the reason and your gas bills would be standardised.

Margaret Thatcher who only remained in power because the military saved her @ss by getting the Falklands back.

Oh yeah, Maggie was great. Her policies effectively wiped out heavy industry in most of the UK. She presided over the most unpopular tax change in history, the Poll Tax, and ensured Labour would win seats in Scotland from them by trying it in Scotland first.

Oh yeah, Maggie%26#039;s wonderful. There%26#039;ll be damn few tears shed amongst ex-miners, ex-steelworkers and ex-dockies when she shuffles off.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?!.....?

Okay, we%26#039;re thinking about moving from the NW suburbs of Chicago to the suburbs of Milwaukee Wisconsin, Pewaukee area to be exact. My husband received a great job offer...just not sure if it%26#039;s a stable move.... I need input...anyone live there?? What are some good areas, good value%26#039;s housing wise?? Raising kids, young families, newer homes, good schools...that sort of thing.... Also...I%26#039;m very concerned as I heard on the news that Wisconsin has very high unemployment rates and more college grads then jobs, is the economy stable there!?

Any and all input from anyone who knows, would be great!

Thanks in advance!!

Should I Stay or Should I Go?!.....?

Pewaukee is a great area, lived there for a few years before moving to AZ. Metro Milwaukee used to be a good place for college grad types to find work, but that is a trend that has gone down hill during the past few years. It is a blue collar industrialized city and always will be; it is what gives the Milwaukee area its character.

Pewaukee is nice because it is an outer suburb and the area is close enough to the city for a commute that would not be to bad. You are right in the middle of lake country and there is never a shortage of things to do in the area.

Surrounding communities like Brookfield, Waukesha and Heartland are all real nice places to live. For the most part there is a national housing slump right now, and the country could be on the verge of a recession. Housing values are not the greatest, but it can only go up from here in the next few years.

Make sure to check out Boomers and have a beer for me...

Do they make teenage pregnany to easy?

In the state of Michigan if you get pregnant and dont have any money the list goes on and on with the charities our taxes pay for. Health insurance that covers everything without a dime to pay 4 a copayment. Food stamps to pay for all the food. Wic to pay 4 all the formula. Section 8 will pay your rent. Hud will buy you a brand new home. The state will pay 4 a new car. They will also pay $1200 to fix a car. They will pay 4 your gas. They will buy you clothes. They will give you carseats. The list goes on and on and on. How will they get people and teens especially 2 stop having kids if you live better once you have them. I work my butt off 40+ hours a week and my husband goes to college full time so we can have a good life. The girl I work with has 2 kids at 18 walks around on a cell phone all day. In the city I live in we have more teen pregnany then any other city in MI and people wonder why! Michigan has one of the highest unemployment rates. Why not make it just a little tougher?

Do they make teenage pregnany to easy?

the reason that they are making it so easy to be pregnant is because they would rather the teen who got pregnant to go through the pregnancy, keep it or eventually adopt out. michigan is a very very hard state to get an abortion in due to the lack of OB/GYN%26#039;s that specialise in abortions. sometimes the nearest is a few hours away. since it%26#039;s not legal to make abortions illegal, the government tries their hardest to make it near impossible. for instance, it%26#039;s not possible for women on foreign army bases to get an abortion at the base hospital because the governemnt won%26#039;t pay for it...even if the girl was raped. so, what MI is doing, is to make the teen do anything to not get an abortion. the government would rather pay for the baby than abort it. now, before people start attacking me for this, let me just say, i totally value any opinion for not wanting to abort a child. i personally, wouldn%26#039;t, but i think there should be the option.

Its a dirty word and then when it happens oh no not my baby how didi this happen. I live in Georgia so I understand.|||Well, first off, I don%26#039;t think they will just give a teenager any of the %26quot;benefits%26quot; being that they are under 18. The support system is a big reason why overeating else costs so much. When you are younger and need to be supported by your parent or parents you are not concerned grown-up. So why should you be when the tax payers and the government supports you. I get tired of struggling through to barely have enough money for groceries and gas to get back and forth to work everyday. Just so people can pop out kids and live on others hard work. If you need help that one thing but milking it out for everything that you %26quot;think%26quot; is owed to you, that%26#039;s shameful. I feel your aggravation because my husband and I have 2 kids,full-time jobs,1,000 per month rent, and still can%26#039;t even save enough money to get new cell phones to replace the broke ones that we have. But you know what those people are victims of a system that was designed to make them productive individuals and the system has been abused so much that now it enables them to do absolutely nothing or just enough to keep getting there benefits. What people like you and I can do is keep being positive and doing the right thing to be better people for ourselves and our families so that one day if we do need the help we already have the will-power and then know-how to use it and leave it for the next person.|||the state of michigan isn%26#039;t alone with all of the handouts. it isn%26#039;t the handouts/assistance that%26#039;s bad, although some of the qualifications for staying on need to be modified, i.e no additional subsidy for additional kids, employed by the time the youngest starts school and many others. unfortunately, it seems far too easy to jump on public assistance and to stay there for years or generations sometimes.

its a slap in the face for those that work, pay taxes, need the service of public assistance but can%26#039;t get it! our politicians go to one extreme or the other, but they never seem to truly work on behalf of the working class that doesn%26#039;t quite earn enough to take care of all of their needs, but earn too much to qualify for public assistance. its ridiculous. for many of the young girls on public assistance, its the most money they see at one time, its consistent, everything is covered and they don%26#039;t have to do anything except answer a few questions, stand in line, and shop. many times the young mother has a boyfriend in the picture at those $ times, the kids look like raggamuffins while her hair and nails are done, and she%26#039;s wearing clothing that i can%26#039;t afford. not all young mothers and others on public assistance fit this mold, but public assistance isn%26#039;t geared toward weaning....its a crutch. removal from the programs is a decision one has to make for him/herself.

its truly a shame that EVERYBODY that needs assistance can%26#039;t get it.|||I was a teen mom but I also agree with you. They should take every one of those options away. They should teach that if you have a baby, you better be able to support it or there is a mandatory adoption. I had my first child at 18 and my second at 19. Their father and I both work and have never received welfare. We pay our bills. Our car is messed up right now so we%26#039;re paying for a ride to work everyday until it gets fixed. Anyways, if they would just take away all the benefits, we would have either a lower pregnancy rate or a lower unemployment rate.

Hey guys can someone write an essay based on the information is given?

hey you guys these are some of the answers that are given to this question ;what are the effect if any does the political; structure have on families in our society? can some one develop all this information into an essay. here is the information or opinions that people had given.

I think there are many ways in which the political structure affects families. Some are beneficial and others are detrimental. Of the good kind, one sees persons settled in a society where law and order prevail, which gives a sense of security to those who abide by it. On the other hand, there is probably too much governmental interference in the way people choose to live. High taxation, antiquated laws, lack of sufficient health care, a stressed economy, unemployment rates, escalating crime, relaxed national security, and domestic violence are some of the by-products of the division of politics in this nation. Where one side will preach conservatism, the opposing faction will expound on liberalism.

Hi Fatjona,

About the time I got into high school, I started noticing the way other people were living. I began to realize that I came from a clan of poor ingrates, breeding without concern of a pedigree. In lay terms, I was a simple S.O.B. and began to wonder, oh no, what in thee hell am I going to do? It took awhile to get a plan but then, one day I sold my mum for a hundred dollars to some young punk. I took that hundred and invested it into a ten-speed bicycle.

OK, there was a king-pin who lived in the neighborhood. I didn’t know his name but everyone called him, “Angel,” and I got a job working for him to deliver envelopes around town. The cops were always cruising the streets and I had a fun time ducking into alleys and following my bike after heaving it over the chain linked fence.

I finally figured out what was in the envelopes and I had enough cash saved up to try another line of work. But Angel wouldn’t hear of it. He said, “You ain’ta gonna quit. See that fat guy over der? He gonna beat the crap outta ya dad if you do.” If that wasn’t enough to persuade me to stay he added, “See dat greasy looking guy over der? He gonna rape yer sista.”

So, I told Angel about my sister, how she’d been giving it up for a long time and, I already sold my mum, did he think I cared about what would happen to my dad too? Angel had another card up his sleeve and said, “See da girl over there, she gonna kill you and da worst pard of it is, dey won’t be any pain.”

Fatjona, I must tell you now that I became very frightened. So much so that I went to the chief of police and fessed up with the entire story. I told him I only wanted to get out of the rat race. The chief was smug, self assured, as he drawled, “Well ok, we’ll try to hep ya.”

A few days passed and my routines returned to normal. I had forgotten what wheels I had set into motion and stepped outside one morning to notice no birds were singing. None of the regular stray dogs were roaming the streets. A tumble weed bounced out of an alley. However, I became aware of a S.W.A.T. team member scoping me from behind trees and roof tops. Then, the chief of police pulled up with a posse of paddy wagons. They drew their service weapons on me as a captain approached with a set of handcuffs. The chief said, “Angel’s gone, the fat guy’s gone, the greasy guy is gone. And now, you’re going to join them.“

The whole neighborhood got busted. As I looked out the back window of the cruiser I could see the bulldozers already beginning to level the block. I got sentenced away to perform hard labor. Taking turns between sweatshops, manual labor, milking cows, pipe irrigation. All the while always working side by side with cousins of inbreeds just like me. There is really no way out of this hell. The only moral to my story is,...

You probably didn’t read this far, did you?

Why does good economic news not make front pages and first stories on TV news as it did before 6-10

It seems unemployment rates used to be put there constantly when they were higher... now it%26#039;s 4.4% an all-time low. when the stock market fell, that all I recall seeing... now it%26#039;s an all-time high again.

Is news media selective?

Why does good economic news not make front pages and first stories on TV news as it did before 6-10 years ago?

You are correct.... the preceding answer was very dubious. Inflation has been minimal and the huge factor she %26quot;conveniently%26quot; ignored was the enormous drop in all areas of the economy after 9/11.

This is tantamount to the point of your question. Any form of econmomic upturn in any index was touted during the Clinton years.... very often front page.... while any positive news of the Bush administration was buried on pages 3,4, 5, or 6 in major news.

Also the last two economic quarters of the Clinton administration showed the strong downside of an economic turn in the offing. Bush%26#039;s analysts knew this, and during the campaign in 2000 he even warned of the problem, but news media poo-poohed the alert and democrats charged him with fear-mongering.... ironically, their own greatest weapon throughout the last six years.

The difference was that Clinton is a Democrat.

Bush is a Republican.

This media will trumpet good news for a Dem and bad news for a Republican. It is assured. Report It

|||Um...no. The economic news is not that great right now. Although many say the economy is rebounding, there are many signs that we are still in the recovery period, some even saying the recession will continue or get worse.

The stock market may be up, but adjusted for inflation, it is not higher than it was at its peak a few years ago.

I know you%26#039;d like to think some news media sources want to show the economy in a bad light to hurt Bush, but the fact is much of the facts coming out lately have not been bad.

I Need Help With A project on the great depression?

Here Is my thesis sentence. Can you please let me know any more information on these topics(Failing Farms ,unequal distribution of wealth, and high unemployment rates). And if you know any other causes please let me know. I will give out best answer.

I Need Help With A project on the great depression?loan

Fix your thesis statement.

Make it be like %26quot;The Great Depression took place during a time in US history where many suffered from financial problems as a result of unequal distribution of weath and where the Stock Market crashed due to high unemployment rates.%26quot;

%26#039;which made the economy unstable%26#039; is unnecessary in the thesis statement. You can use it in your body paragraphs.

Failing Farms : The Dust Bowl (in the mid West). As the other person said, use John Steinbeck%26#039;s %26quot;Grapes of Wrath%26quot; novel as an example which depicted how many farmers lost the mortgages to their farms and were forced to move and find other work. (1/3 farmers had to foreclose)

High Unemployment Rates : Since many were unemployed, they were forced to move into Hoovervilles. Hoovervilles were basically cardboard shacks being thrown up in America%26#039;s large cities. 1/3 adults were out of work. If people we employed, they were considered underemployed because they were reduced to part-time. Unemployment was caused because there were no banks to extend credit and capital and businesses and factories closed.

I don%26#039;t really know what you%26#039;re talking about when you mention the unequal distribution of wealth? Are you focusing on the Stock market crash in this section? When brokers called customers to pay off the amounts owed on stocks bought with borrowed money, these investors had to sell off their stocks to raise cash. This created a wave of fear鈥攖he fear of losing everything鈥攖hat quickly gained momentum. As stock prices fell, more brokers called on customers to put up more cash and a vicious cycle was unleashed, sending prices on the stock exchange plunging. On %26quot;Black Thursday%26quot;, October 24, 13 million shares of stock were sold off. Within days, the %26quot;wealth%26quot; of a large part of the country, which had been concenentrated in vastly inflated stock prices, simply vanished.

The Great Depression was a time of economic down turn, which started after the stock market crash on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday. It began in the United States and quickly spread to Europe and every part of the world, with devastating effects in both industrialized countries and those which export raw materials. International trade declined sharply, as did personal incomes, tax revenues, prices and profits. Cities all around the world were hit hard, especially those dependent on heavy industry. Construction was virtually halted in many countries. Farming and rural areas suffered as crop prices fell by 40 to 60 percent. Mining and logging areas had perhaps the most striking blow because the demand fell sharply and there were few employment alternatives. The Great Depression ended at different times in different countries; for subsequent history see Home front during World War II. The majority of countries set up relief programs, and most underwent some sort of political upheaval, pushing them to the left or right. Democracy was weakened and on the defensive, as dictators such as Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini made major gains, which helped set the stage for World War II in 1939.

If you are really interested check out %26quot;screwed%26quot; by Tom Hartman. You will learn so much.|||Instead of saying everyone went poor. Try something this.... During the Great Depression many American families were living in poverty. There were several factors that contributed to the decline of the economy including the Stock Market Crash of 1918 (?) better known as Black Friday. In general, i have seen the guys from Kerala working so hard if they are not in their home state. But if they are working in Kerala the opposite of that happens. See the neighbouring TN doesn%26#039;t have the richness of Kerala in terms of natural resources like water etc but still it is more industralized (just behind Gujarat and maharashtra), the main reason for that is the highly skilled and motivated work force.

To cut it short I think a motivated workforce is needed to have a successful organization or in this case to industralize a state.

COLUMBIA, S.C. 鈥?John Edwards promises to stand up for American workers in a television ad to begin airing Wednesday in his native South Carolina, the first TV advertising for any of the Democratic presidential candidates.

The ad opens with Edwards walking through the overgrown parking lot of the Seneca textile mill where his father worked.

%26quot;Now it%26#039;s closed, the jobs are gone. For too many, it%26#039;s just about profit and greed. They%26#039;re wrong,%26quot; Edwards says in the 30-second spot that is to air statewide. %26quot;It%26#039;s about the dignity of a job and doing what%26#039;s right for America%26#039;s workers.%26quot;

Edwards also says the country doesn%26#039;t need another president %26quot;that puts wealth above work.%26quot;

%26quot;So, if you%26#039;re ready to stand with me for American jobs and America%26#039;s workers, your time is now,%26quot; says Edwards, who represented North Carolina in the Senate.

Edwards was born in Seneca in South Carolina%26#039;s northwestern corner, and his presidential campaigns in 2004 and now have emphasized that he is the son of a mill worker who through hard work managed to become a successful and wealthy lawyer and politician.

He is the first Democratic presidential candidate to run television ads in South Carolina, where unemployment rates are chronically above the national average.

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama have run radio ads.

Edwards won South Carolina%26#039;s Democratic primary in 2004, but a recent poll shows him trailing Clinton and Obama.

In Iowa, meanwhile, Edwards was to begin airing advertisements Tuesday in Iowa focusing on his call to end health benefits for top politicians who don%26#039;t approve a universal health care plan within six months of his taking office.

%26quot;When I%26#039;m president I%26#039;m going to say to members of Congress and members of my administration, including my Cabinet: I%26#039;m glad that you have health care coverage and your family has health care coverage,%26quot; Edwards says in the new spot airing in Iowa. %26quot;But if you don%26#039;t pass universal health care by July of 2009 _ in six months _ I%26#039;m going to use my power as president to take your health care away from you.%26quot;

EDWARDS 2008! GIVE %26#039;EM HELL JOHN!|||If you vote and support for socialized medicine You%26#039;re a fool.|||Yes!! Lets all have mandatory government checkups, Mandatory government vaccines. Mandatory government regulated diets, Mandatory government exercise routines, and Mandatory government prescription meds.

Who cares about civil liberties? Edwards%26#039; Health Care enforces Mandatory procedures for all citizens. The government knows what is best for us. We can%26#039;t take care of ourselves. Prescription meds have no known side-effects. Forget about alternative treatments. The government knows what works and what doesn%26#039;t. They are only looking out for our best interest.|||Americans WANT universal health care, which is why it%26#039;s such a big issue in this campaign (and previous ones). I%26#039;m glad Edwards doesn%26#039;t say %26#039;free%26#039; health care because we all know it%26#039;s not -free-, we%26#039;re just arguing about how to pay for it.

I like the idea of Edwards saying if Congress doesn%26#039;t get on the ball he will take -their- health care away (and Congress -does- get free health care). The idea is a good one because it puts the ball in their court. He%26#039;s saying %26#039;I want to implement universal health care, and if I can%26#039;t it will be Congress%26#039;s fault.%26#039;

But you have to consider that a president can%26#039;t take away a benefit from Congress all by himself. And I don%26#039;t see Congress voting to give up their own health care, do you?

So Edwards is making a promise he knows he can%26#039;t keep. And even though I like the goal, I have had enough of presidential candidates doing that, going back to Reagan%26#039;s promise to balance the budget -and- give big tax cuts, and to pass a constitutional amendment, no less, to ban abortion.

Also, now I hope I don%26#039;t sound too cynical, but all the universal health care proposals I%26#039;ve heard from politicians, including GHW Bush, Bill Clinton, and now Hillary Clinton, have the same basis, the have the government buying health insurance for -some- uninsured people from the existing insurance corporations, at their going rate. And this isn%26#039;t what most Americans want. The health insurance industry is one of the biggest campaign contributors, I think they are Hillary%26#039;s -biggest- contributor. So any proposal they make only shores up the existing system, which is riddled with bureaucratic inefficiency, waste and fraud. I haven%26#039;t read about Edwards%26#039; proposal but I wouldn%26#039;t be surprised if it was the same.|||It doesn%26#039;t make sense. He seems to understand the real problem when he says that the president %26quot;that puts wealth above work%26quot; is wrong.

But at the end, he says %26quot;But if you don%26#039;t pass universal health care by July of 2009 _ in six months _ I%26#039;m going to use my power as president to take your health care away from you.%26quot;

He%26#039;s just another socialist trying to make the impossible compulsory by law.

Then try to make ends meet by twisting the value of the money.

Then try to control inflation by regulating markets.

It was the government. Although Germany is a free country, some of their systems are not that similiar to ours. The government controls the economy more than our govt here. Not only that, Germany is part of a larger economic unit called the European Union. They use the euro as currency

How to begin the healing from death, divorce and depression?

lost my dad (my hero) in 97, had alcoholic husband left in 04 divorced 06. daighters 20 %26amp; 18 are with him to complete school where they have always gone to school, was so depressed before leaving him was ready to commit suicide. Whole family turned against me because I moved to an area with more jobs. The area I was in had very high unemployment rates and none of family would help. Ex called me fat, ugly, and stupid for years. I understand that was the acohol talking, but self-esteem was so wore down from it. Daughter called me b* slapped her and he threatened to beat the h* out of me just a couple weeks before I left. I miss my girls, oldest talks to me about every 2 weeks and comes to visit about 2X a year. Youngest refuses to have anything to do with me. not to mention, I still cry over my dad even after 10 years. How do I start to heal? Either call your local Department of Family and social Services or even call a therapist and ask for information / contact numbers to locations that provide therapy based on your income. There are good therapist and there are bad therapist. some actually listen and help you express your feelsing and help you understand why you feel the way you do and help direct you in making some positve changes; then there are therapist that just sit there and look at you funny then at the end of your seesion that either tell you to came back and let them know how you are doing or even perhaps prescribe medications. Talk to a minister, and make some friends. Go free places, like libraries and pursue your interests there. Talk to like minded people on the internet.

About grief. Something that all adults learn, but that it would be cruel to tell children, is that loss is permanent. The pain never goes away completely. You can%26#039;t heal to the point where you feel like it never happened - it changes who you are.

But you can guide yourself and let others help you to the point where you can function, and find happiness again. You will always feel sad about the loss of your dad. That%26#039;s ok, it%26#039;s human. Just keep struggling to hold on tight to the good things about your father. Remember the fun and the love, and know that through your memory of him, he is still alive in you. He gave himself to you, and so you haven%26#039;t lost him, as long as you keep his memory alive in you.

And most important, get out of the house! some days you just can%26#039;t stand the idea of anything but work, home, work home, but that is soul killing. So even though you don%26#039;t want to, make appointments to go for a walk, and keep them like it was the law. Make a contract with yourself to visit the public library and read at least one book there, and no, downloading from the internet doesn%26#039;t count, that%26#039;s cheating.

Listen to music you used to like, do things you used to like to do. Rediscover yourself.

The economy seems stable enough to me. There are some great companies that are headquartered here. Like any metropolitan area--including Chicago--there are problems, but Pewaukee isn%26#039;t in the city. It%26#039;s a suburb to the west of Milwaukee and there are several suburbs--quite affluent ones--between Pewaukee and the Milwaukee County line.

I assume you%26#039;ve visited Pewaukee and you%26#039;ve seen what life is like there--the lake, the schools, the people. It%26#039;s a great place to raise kids--most places in Wisconsin are. Cities here are usually on lists of the top places to raise a family, with Sheboygan (to the north) and Madison (to the west) named most often.

For children, there are many kinds of resources so you don%26#039;t have to feel that by moving them away from a bigger metropolis you are condemning them to live like hicks. Music, drama, athletic, and cultural organizations such as ethnic dance groups can suppliment more community based activities and just hanging out.

The tourism business is very strong in Wisconsin and people who live here also like to have a good time.

I think it%26#039;s a very good place to raise a family. I live in one of those suburbs between Pewaukee and Milwaukee and my children have grown up safe, well-educated, and with experiences I never really thought they could have. Living here lets them know that there%26#039;s a big world out there to explore and the security of living in a safe place lets them develop confidence to go out there and explore it.

Probably not. But it is enough time to get things moving in the right direction. If they can get things moving to BETTER even if they aren%26#039;t GREAT at the end of the first 4 year term, there is a reasonable expectation that the winner of this election would be able to win the next one in 2012 also. That may give them enough time to make a real difference.

If they make it worse or it remains the same, they probably will lose to other contenders in 2012.

Over-consumption, particularly when it is based on credit. Un-employment is a symptom not a cause.

This is for American citizens.. How do you feel about illegal immigrants and how they affected the U

Over the last few days, many protests have been going go about mexican citizenship. The real issue is why does it take so long for U.S. immigration to either grant visas to, not just these folks, but others immigrants as well. We need to give them citizenship or get them back home. The increase in medical costs to the uninsured, the unpaid taxes and the increase in unemployment rates and unreprimanded crimes leaves us with a very serious issue for our future and those of our children.

This is for American citizens.. How do you feel about illegal immigrants and how they affected the US economy?online loan

Illegals draw welfare by stealing people%26#039;s social security numbers and identities. That means there are a lot of people being directly hurt by these people as well. Innocent people are having their credit ratings ruined, having IRS problems, and social security problems. If someone who has had their social security number stolen gets married, if either spouse dies or become disabled then they can be denied their benefits.

My family moved to the US before WWII. Those of my family that didn%26#039;t make it over got killed by the death camps. Our family assimilated to the American culture. We didn%26#039;t expect the Americans to change to suit us. The illegal immigrants from Mexico are not civilized like that.

They not only changed the National Anthem to Spanish, they changed the words. They already burn our flag and hang our flag upside down. They waved the Mexican flag during a lot of their protests. Some schools have stopped hanging the American flag and forbidden students from wearing clothes with any part of the American flag on their clothing all to keep from offending the Mexicans. It%26#039;s nothing short of an attack of our country, not only by the illegal aliens, but those who seek to appease them.

I am tired of the stereotype that Americans wouldn%26#039;t do the work that illegals do. Illegals do all kinds of jobs for less than minimum wage which drives the wages down for U.S. citizens. Construction jobs are an example. There are lots of illegals doing construction jobs that Americans used to do because the companies can keep more of the profits if they pay less for the workers. All that does is make companies wealthier and Americans poorer. Illegals are stealing jobs that Americans have done for years.

If you go to a country and refuse to assimilate, continuing to speak your own language then you are really not an immigrant -- you%26#039;re a colonist ... and that%26#039;s what the Mexicans are doing, they%26#039;re colonizing the American Southwest as part of their %26quot;reconquista%26quot; Read about mecha in the link I provided and you%26#039;ll see what the Mexicans real agenda is.

Let%26#039;s start with:

They%26#039;re illegal.

That%26#039;s it.|||I%26#039;d like it alot better if they were legal. One of my parents immigrated legally. It would be safer for us, safer for the immigrants, keep out life long criminals and make more room for skilled, honest, hard-working immigrants.|||i think if illegal immigrants are found, they should be shipped right back, and then placed on a list of blackballed felons. we do not want criminals to move here. it%26#039;s not just the mexicans. why should we give mexicans certain amnisty rights. that%26#039;s racist, we shouldn%26#039;t give amnisty to anyone. all illegal immigrants should be treated the same, and shipped back at the same time. ship %26#039;em back|||http://360.yahoo.com/daves26|||I feel that they should pay taxes, be able to speak english, stop waving the flag of their country, have background checks and obey the law. If they cannot do any of the above then they should leave.

Please pray for the blonde haired blue eyed child they are the race that will soon be extinct.|||I have to agree with what you are saying. I am in Arizona and since 1990 our high school drop out rate has increased, teenage pregnancies are dramatically climbing, the unemployment rate is unatrocious. You know, I had to file for unemployment and thankfully it only lasted a month or so and I was able to land a good job. You know, when I was in the DES office, the majority of the people getting WIC and food stamps and so on and so forth did NOT SPEAK ENGLISH!!! That%26#039;s just not fair. You know that they aren%26#039;t legal. I can back myself up on that because my fiancee lives in Peru , he will be here on a visa in March berfore he was able to come , he had to learn english and get a background check and a health screen.

Our crime rates are climbing too, the drug trafficking is increasing and it%26#039;s just a living nightmare.

Yeah, come to our country, but do it the correct way!@|||one of the reasons it takes so long to get a visa is because not every country of origin is very cooperative when we request information concerning criminal back ground checks. another reason is because thousands of request for visas are submitted every day. as for the reason they aren%26#039;t sent home, they are shielded by big businesses that put profits ahead of the law.|||I think you already brought up some great issues about the impacts of the presence of illegal immigrants. I can only add that US economy actually do need extra workforce from these illegal people but only in certain sector. US farm sector is in dire need of man power. They have to legalize some of these illegals right away. On the other hand, the illiterate, unskilled bunch must be extradited. Because they are causing all kinds of problems both from social and economic stand point.|||uh ...who cares...as long as they get the crap taxed out of them like we do and have to pay for health care. get rid of the freeloaders.|||we are all immigrants in that time it was just easier. My friend has a problem to visit me he just cant get a visa and hi is living in EU contry.

They cant be legal why? Because than they cant work for minimum wage or under thay have to start paying taxes healt insurance and more and more so they CANT BE LEGAL that is the bigest problem for senate we cant used them anymore if they will be legal. We should let them work, travel and paying taxes and every year they should sign the payper for work permit I do not know like for $1000? If they want if dont felony and adios.|||The immigration laws have to change, that%26#039;s for sure. It%26#039;s true about healthcare spending, and a lack of income taxes from immigrants, etc. But a 700 mile fence isn%26#039;t going to keep them out. And when you think about it, do we really want to? I mean, I have no desire to pick lettuce for less than minimum wage, but I do want to buy lettuce for 99 cents a head. So let them pick the lettuce, and lets let them be legal.|||I%26#039;m an american citizen,my parents were born in Mexico but they%26#039;re citizens too and wether you%26#039;re illegal or not you still have to pay taxes so they should just give immigrants a visa.|||Each day I go to the health office in my local county, the health department is flooded with non English speaking Hispanics who stand in line for what social services are being given to them for free, Tax Payers fund that bill, hospitals across this country are in the red because of the number of services they are expected to give to non productive members of this society, ie: (non taxed illegals who demand treatment or some ACLU attorney will sue them on behalf of this %26quot;unfair practice%26quot;) The prisons are full of illegals who commit crimes and are sent to prison where we once again the tax payers pay the bill, not to mention the meth epidemic that has skyrocketed the crime problems in most communities where addicts steal anything to pay for the drugs they crave and 80% of that Meth comes across the border with the influx of illegals. Now you did it my blood pressure is up again. :)|||You%26#039;re right. A person would have to be a glutton for punishment to even try to come to USA legally.

We need to make it easier for legal immigrants to come and more difficult for illegals to come|||I agree with you.|||Immigration does need repaired. I have nothing against LEGAL immigration, that%26#039;s how our country grew so great and flourished, true diversity gave us strength. But, if you don%26#039;t like a law, change it, don%26#039;t break it.

Build the wall.

If I were Mexican, I%26#039;d probably want to come here too to feed my family and get away from the corrupt officials there.

This country doesn%26#039;t give free medical care to my family, no automatic in-state tuition wherever I want to send my kids, automatic social security and welfare. Why should we bend over backwards to help someone breaking the law?

They come here not just to do jobs nobody else wants but well paid construction jobs that unemployed Americans could use and legally pay taxes on.|||ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it helps the poor the most, and it would attract so many jobs to america, that no one who wanted to work would have a problem finding a job...its almost like that now in america with our low unemployment rates, but that%26#039;s another topic.

its about time someone thought about the majority for a friggin change|||The Fair Tax when passed will draw businesses from other countries to the United States because of NO BUSINESS TAXES. Other countries will have business taxes that will be paid and those businesses will want to pay less taxes. This means they will need workers. The job market will be wide open. The competition for good workers will raise the pay scale of the workers. The good workers will receive higher wages and the non-productive workers will be left behind. If the worker wants to get ahead, they will be able to simply by doing a good job. The law of supply and demand not only applies to the purchasing of goods, but also applies to the job market. A good quality work ethic will demand a higher pay. If the employer does not want to pay the higher wage, his competition will.

There has been some talk of the US facing another Great Depression. Is it going to happen?

I have read an article stating: %26quot;A depression is a servere recession usually characterized by any of the following problems.... Financial panic, bank closures, unemployment rates exceeding 20 percent, and significant deflation%26quot;. I%26#039;m just wondering if we are going to expirience another great depression? And if so how is it going to effect or economy?

Not likely. The Great Depression lasted as long as it did largely because the Congress decided to have a budget surplus when a deficit was necessary. In Congress%26#039; defense, it had an excuse to be ignorant; %26quot;The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money%26quot; by J.M. Keynes was not published until 1937, and it took some time for its ideas to take hold...

I%26#039;m pretty sure we will. I%26#039;ve been following this for the past three years. I was warning friends and family about it, but as these things tend to go it didn%26#039;t happen right away so they ignored it and asked me questions like, %26quot;well why hasn%26#039;t it happened yet?%26quot;

Well it finally is. It%26#039;s a little difficult to explain, but if you take the time to look into the problem for yourself you%26#039;ll see what%26#039;s going on. This guy%26#039;s site is very well written and he uses language that doesn%26#039;t confuse you: http://www.markswatson.com

As to how this will affect the economy... well there won%26#039;t be much of an economy after that. The dollar will be worthless. It seems to me that hollywoods elite keep focusing on poverty in other countries, and ignore the fact that more and more people right here in the US are poverty stricken and need help!! Well, the poor in this country won’t generate the same kind of publicity as it would in countries overseas. After all those people don’t even speak the same language as we do, so the media can say that they’re so impoverished that can’t even afford an education. They can interview them and have their “translators” interpret them as saying whatever they want. And what do the Hollywood types get if they help these people aside from world media attention and a few ‘atta boy’s’ from the political leaders of whoever’s country they happen to be in, a population of Senegalese people who learn enough English to they can say “thank you Alec Baldwin, because of you I can afford to go to school and write to you. You are my hero.” And you know the American press will be there.

The poor in this country are only going to say “About time! We’ve been saying that you should help us her first since you people put a man on the moon!” (Rich Hollywood types don’t like to be reminded that they’re ignorant too because they depend on the media for their information) just as long as Bono looks good in Kenya.

What happens when minimum wage goes up?

Serious answers please .

Oregon increases their minimum wage by 25 cents every year. Now Oregon%26#039;s minimum wage is $7.50. Oregon is nation wide second highest minimum wage.

How a State decides to raise mimum wage, based on what?

What are the financial and economical consequences for setting minimum wage so high?

What it does to the productive labor force?

What impact it has on the small business owners?

High minimum wage, does it damage or create more jobs considering the state%26#039;s unemployment rates?

Thanks in advance.

What happens when minimum wage goes up?bank loan

The reason intelligent people are against the raising of minimum wage(or min wage all together), is because when you raise the minimum hiring wage you force the business owners to take the blow to their profits, which they are not going to do.

You not only have to pay the basic unskilled worker coming in the door more per hour but by nature all skilled workers are going to want a raise by equal increments.

Not to mention the price of ever day good will go up. Your hamburger at McDonald%26#039;s will be $10(exaggerated a little)

This is a political trick usually by Democrats to %26quot;buy%26quot; votes from the poor and uninformed. It sound good to raise wages, but it doesn%26#039;t work. The free market should decide what a good wage for a good job is.

when minumum wage goes up.. taxes will go up!|||when minimun wage goes up inflation increases.|||my father in law owns a few small businesses, and said he will have to raise his prices to cover it..... so if everyone does that , then what was the point of raising minimum wage?|||Minimum wage goes up, so will taxes and the cost of living.|||Cost of living determines raise in wage.

It costs more to hire employees if you have to pay more.

Small business owners may not be able to afford raises and may have to let some people go.

Minimum wage is just one component of a state%26#039;s economy. Politics affects local economies more than wages.|||Following the most recent increase in the minimum wage in 1996-97, the low-wage labor market performed better than it had in decades (e.g., lower unemployment rates, increased average hourly wages, increased family income, decreased poverty rates). Studies of the 1990-91 federal minimum wage increase, as well as to studies by David Card and Alan Krueger of several state minimum wage increases, also found no measurable negative impact on employment. Finally, a recent Fiscal Policy Institute (FPI) study of state minimum wages found no evidence of negative employment effects on small businesses.

Plus, more families will be able to be off the welfare roles, and will become consumers, thus helping the economy. (A family cannot support itself on just minimum wage.)|||When the minimum wage goes up individuals have more spending power and the money is recirculated in society. By creating increased wealth, the local economy is stimulated. To show a small example:

Someone who earns a small wage can%26#039;t afford any luxuries. If they have some extra disposable income they might go to the hairdresser, join a sports club, go see a movie etc, and this helps keep all of the people in these areas employed. Providing the minimum wage isn%26#039;t set ridiculously high (and $7.50 isn%26#039;t that high) then it creates sustainable wealth as all those people buy goods and services.

This also means that workers are not exploited by their employers as they must be paid fairly.

Which British city would make an excellent twin for Buffalo, New York in the USA?

Buffalo is an old manufacturing based city that once counted amongst its numerous factories the second largest steel works in the world, employing over 25,000 people at its height. Why don't people see the Draft would be a good thing?

It would solve so many problems. It would teach young adults responsibility, pride, ethics, morals and many other characteristics lacking by them these days. People don%26#039;t realize it would really just be an extension of school and the conscripts wouldn%26#039;t see combat or ever be put in harms way, unless the country were in dire need. The enlisted would still handle the fighting, we would just have plenty of people to handle everything else. Can you imagine a country filled with respect and national pride? The premise of your question indicates that society would be better off if the U.S. had %26quot;Mandatory Military Participation (MMP)%26quot;. Better than calling it the %26quot;D%26quot; word.

Here is what you can do to better prove whether your premise is true or not. Look at the democracies in Europe or all over the world, that have MMP, and compare their quality of life to ours.

If you really want to take the time and do a comparison, go to the CIA website (BELOW) and compare the nations that have MMP and the U.S. and compare their vital stats (crime, education, income, etc).

I would venture to say that it would not or does not make a difference in a society whether they have MMP or not in terms of the vital stats of a nation.

However, I like your premise and its very optimistic. If you ran for congress and running on a MMP platform, I would vote for you, just because you still have faith in humanity. Whatever you do, do not lose your faith in humanity.

Thats all I need is some a$$hole that does not even want to be there looking out for me while we are in combat. Especially ethics and morals because i know way to many service men who have very little and the people who I see have the most are people who praise peace not destruction. Also the extension to school is called college(high school that is). Seeing how you are in the service, would you really want people protecting you who REALLY REALLY don%26#039;t want to be there.
