I Need Help With A project on the great depression?loan
Fix your thesis statement.
Make it be like %26quot;The Great Depression took place during a time in US history where many suffered from financial problems as a result of unequal distribution of weath and where the Stock Market crashed due to high unemployment rates.%26quot;
%26#039;which made the economy unstable%26#039; is unnecessary in the thesis statement. You can use it in your body paragraphs.
Failing Farms : The Dust Bowl (in the mid West). As the other person said, use John Steinbeck%26#039;s %26quot;Grapes of Wrath%26quot; novel as an example which depicted how many farmers lost the mortgages to their farms and were forced to move and find other work. (1/3 farmers had to foreclose)
High Unemployment Rates : Since many were unemployed, they were forced to move into Hoovervilles. Hoovervilles were basically cardboard shacks being thrown up in America%26#039;s large cities. 1/3 adults were out of work. If people we employed, they were considered underemployed because they were reduced to part-time. Unemployment was caused because there were no banks to extend credit and capital and businesses and factories closed.
I don%26#039;t really know what you%26#039;re talking about when you mention the unequal distribution of wealth? Are you focusing on the Stock market crash in this section? When brokers called customers to pay off the amounts owed on stocks bought with borrowed money, these investors had to sell off their stocks to raise cash. This created a wave of fear鈥攖he fear of losing everything鈥攖hat quickly gained momentum. As stock prices fell, more brokers called on customers to put up more cash and a vicious cycle was unleashed, sending prices on the stock exchange plunging. On %26quot;Black Thursday%26quot;, October 24, 13 million shares of stock were sold off. Within days, the %26quot;wealth%26quot; of a large part of the country, which had been concenentrated in vastly inflated stock prices, simply vanished.

The Great Depression was a time of economic down turn, which started after the stock market crash on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday. It began in the United States and quickly spread to Europe and every part of the world, with devastating effects in both industrialized countries and those which export raw materials. International trade declined sharply, as did personal incomes, tax revenues, prices and profits. Cities all around the world were hit hard, especially those dependent on heavy industry. Construction was virtually halted in many countries. Farming and rural areas suffered as crop prices fell by 40 to 60 percent. Mining and logging areas had perhaps the most striking blow because the demand fell sharply and there were few employment alternatives. The Great Depression ended at different times in different countries; for subsequent history see Home front during World War II. The majority of countries set up relief programs, and most underwent some sort of political upheaval, pushing them to the left or right. Democracy was weakened and on the defensive, as dictators such as Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini made major gains, which helped set the stage for World War II in 1939.

I wouldn%26#039;t make such a broad statment as %26quot;everyone went poor,%26quot; because not everyone was impoverished during this time. It%26#039;s surprising, but I just learned that this past year. Lots of people were able to keep their jobs and still did quite well.
I%26#039;d just take half an hour to compile some internet research, if I was in your position. Maybe start with wikipedia to get a good overview, then try more %26quot;authoritative%26quot; sites, like these:

(this is a university site and contains a great paragraph on unemployment rates and another on failing farms, along with a more precise definition of the depression and its causes)

If you are really interested check out %26quot;screwed%26quot; by Tom Hartman. You will learn so much.|||Instead of saying everyone went poor. Try something this.... During the Great Depression many American families were living in poverty. There were several factors that contributed to the decline of the economy including the Stock Market Crash of 1918 (?) better known as Black Friday. Remeber a thesis statement does not have to be in one sentence. Just remember whatever you say you must support with facts in the body of your thesis and you must have a closing that restates your belief.
