The classic way to encourage investment and hard work is to keep taxes low. In Ireland it worked a treat, with a 15% corporate tax rate revolutionising that economy. So how have the Danes gone against the trend so successfully?

taxes are good if taxes are used for the people

yes in Denmark taxes are high, but they all get free education, free heath care , and when you are retired you are taken care of financially. no one is unnecessarily rich. if you are a doctor or a factory worker you are equally respected. every one works and everyone plays. pure socialism.

It helps to have a fairly homogenous culture, with fewer immigrants and undereducated or divisive minorities as is common elsewhere., but actually their economy is not doing as well as it had been (http://www.economy.com/dismal/country_pa... healthcare quality is not very good, their budget surplus is almost gone, and 23% of the working age population is dependant on some form of unemployment checks. Their 63% top tax bracket has caused a flight of talented people away from their market, so growth is being slowed.

Even the Danes know lower taxes boost growth; To fix that, they have scheduled a small reduction in income taxes during 2008-09, and did so once already in 2004.|||All sorts of economic policies exist in countries with successful economies because government fiddle until things work for them. There are many factors that matter that are not taught in econ 101 and from empirical evidence protection of property rights, little or no corruption and a healthy well educated work force are key ingredients to having a rich country as well as tax rates that do not kill the incentive to work. Someone once commented that Scandinavian countries can have high taxes because it is too cold to mess around so everyone wants to work anyway.
