Why won't liberals admit to being socialist? Wealthfare, SS, and now Universal Healthcare?

Check out hte growth rates and unemployment rates for France, Germany, and Italy. Tell me if these socialists countries are more sucessful than the USA.

Why won%26#039;t liberals admit to being socialist? Wealthfare, SS, and now Universal Healthcare?inflation rate

I am a conservative and I believe the term socialist is bandied about way too much these days. While some policies supported by liberals are indeed socialist in nature, I do not believe that the majority of them believe themselves to be socialists. The biggest problem I see with the entitlement mentality can be summed up in the current universal health care debate. The people who support this policy use the word free to describe it. They believe they will be getting free health care. They believe that the government will be paying for their health care. The problem is that the government has no money of its own. The government can only provide funds through taxation. Therefore it is not the government paying for any of these programs, but rather you and I. This is called redistribution of wealth and it is socialist thinking by definition. We should always strive to help those who are less fortunate in our society. I say help, not support for a lifetime. It is not really a socialist nature, but rather a feelgood mentality which ignores basic economic realities. In short, nothing in life is free. If it is being given to you, someone, somewhere is paying for it.

haha, %26quot;wealthfare%26quot;, good one.......ha

Right I completey agree with you, the founder of the ACLU stated that communism was the goal.|||I think it comes down to not understanding where the money comes from to fund these programs. They don%26#039;t want to be called socialist, but they have a entitlement attitude. Its just a lack of knowledge.|||Only because it would make them appear weirder than they already are.|||Because they think it would make them unelectable. The reality is, that most Americans actually want a socialist nation.|||Please explain how the socialistic policies of the countries you mention contribute, positively or negatively, to their growth rate.|||Alright we%26#039;re Socialists. Feel better?

Oh, by the way, so are you. Do you contribute to Medicare, and Social Security? That%26#039;s Socialism. Do you pay taxes that go to welfare, police protection, or road maintenance? That%26#039;s Socialism.

Those countries being more or less Socialists has NOTHING to do with unemployment rates. The US was much closer to Capitalism in October of 1929, and look what happened to the unemployment rate.

It all has to do with the policies of the governments and businesses, not the form of governments involved.

Here endth the lesson.|||I am conservative, I believe in the bill of rights not than any modern conservative would even know about the bill of rights, let alone want people to use them and defend them. but to them i guess that i am the liberal that some people are referring to although i am not socialist. I do believe that people need to earn things. I believe that people need a safety net, but, that i should not be abused, and threat some service must be served for the monies received. Social Security this is a good thing, it is often abused and many people that draw SSI are abusing the system, but this fraud needs to be reported and those people abusers need prosecuted. Healthcare, there are working programs, but, those on the government dole should not abuse the system and use local clinics not pick a doctor. Clinics are good enough for our men / women in uniform, why not those that can%26#039;t or won%26#039;t pay.|||They have much lower poverty rates than the USA, and much higher quality of life. So yes, they are more successful than the USA.|||Liberalism and socialism are not the same thing. This is why conservatives need to be better educated before they run their mouths. Did you go to high school?

Liberalism - about about giveaways for the disenfranchised. Definitely had it%26#039;s place in the 60s. Not so much now.

Socialism - A system which places the community before the individual. Provides for the person but encourages the power and industry of the whole group.

See the difference? The G8 is mostly social democracies. Do they have the crazy wealth of the US? No. But that had nothing to do with socialism. Europe is crowded and competitive. The US is all by itself in North America. Socialism is a more human and sensible system which better rewards the whole country, not just 10% of it.
