Why do some people think that illegal immigration is ok from any country into America? I don%26#039;t understand the theory that %26quot;the immigrants will take the jobs that no one else wants%26quot;. I mean, if a hard working man lost his job, he%26#039;d work anywhere he could before he let his family starve. Also, where I%26#039;ve lived, people have a hard time finding jobs that don%26#039;t require a college diploma. Decent jobs like landscaping and construction seem harder and harder to come by because of all the %26quot;under the table%26quot; work going on. Unemployment rates put the economy into even more of a funk. Some say that this will just put more pressure on people to further their education. Well, that may be true, but how can someone go to college if they can%26#039;t afford it? How will their bills be paid in the mean time if they can%26#039;t find a job?
Can someone explain to me why this is a good thing?

This is for the first poster...and I believe that it answers your question as well.
Let us be clear about this. To say that we are a “nation of immigrants” is to say that there has never been an American people apart from immigrants. It is to put America out of existence as a historically existing nation that immigrants and their children joined by coming here, a country with its own right to exist and to determine its own sovereign destiny, which includes the right to permit immigration or not.
“We are a nation of immigrants.”
This—the veritable “king” of open-borders clichés—seems at first glance to be an indisputable statement, in the sense that all Americans, even including the American Indians, are either immigrants themselves or descendants of people who came here from other places. Given the above, it would be more accurate to say that we are “a nation of people descended from immigrants.” But such a mundane statement would fail to convey the thrilling idea conjured up by the phrase “nation of immigrants”—the idea that all of us, whether or not we are literally immigrants, are somehow “spiritually” immigrants, in the sense that the immigrant experience defines our character as Americans.
This friendly-sounding, inclusive sentiment—like so many others of its kind—turns out to be profoundly exclusive. For one thing, it implies that anyone who is not an immigrant, or who does not identify with immigration as a key aspect of his own being, is not a “real” American. It also suggests that newly arrived immigrants are more American than people whose ancestors have been here for generations. The public television essayist Richard Rodriguez spelled out these assumptions when he declared, in his enervated, ominous tone: “Those of us who live in this country are not the point of America. The newcomers are the point of America.”
Apart from its politically correct function of diminishing the Americans of the pre-Ellis Island period and their descendants, the “nation of immigrants” motto is meaningless in practical terms. Except for open-borders ideologues, everyone knows we must have some limits on immigration. The statement, “we are a nation of immigrants,” gives us no guidance on what those limits should be. Two hundred thousand immigrants per year? Two million? Why not twenty million—since we’re a nation of immigrants? The slogan also doesn’t tell us, once we have decided on overall numbers, what the criterion of selection shall be among the people who want to come here. Do we choose on the basis of family ties to recent immigrants? Language? Income? Nationality? Race? Victim status? First come first served? Willingness to work for a lower wage than Americans work for? The “nation of immigrants” slogan cannot help us choose among these criteria because it doesn’t state any good that is to be achieved by immigration. It simply produces a blind emotional bias in favor of more immigration rather than less, making rational discussion of the issue impossible.
Since every nation could be called a nation of immigrants (or a nation of invaders) if you go back far enough, consistent application of the principle that a nation of immigrants must be open to all future immigrants would require every country on earth to open its borders to whoever wanted to come. But only the United States and, to a lesser extent, a handful of other Western nations, are said to have this obligation. The rule of openness to immigrants turns out to be a double standard, aimed solely at America and the West.

It%26#039;s a good thing for employers who don%26#039;t like having to pay a living wage for those greedy working class folks. Those folks have a way of getting in the way of an obscene profit margin.
The %26quot;no one else is willing to do%26quot; is a half-truth, no one is willing to do it-for the same pay scale that the illegals get paid for.|||This is not a good thing, the economy is in a recession and will fall much more and this is fuel to the fire. Greedy businessmen and our government are selling us out to Mexico, China etc... More than 50% of college graduates do not get the jobs they seek so that is not the answer. the high cost of everything must have a cap on it or will self destrucked. I never thoougt I would see this country In such a helpless state and so little to help it is being done. When it all falls apart even the rich will be bankrupt, the thing is that they don%26#039;t beleave it can happen to them so they do not do anything.|||well people agree with them comming into this country because we did harm to them, we took their land, they take jobs that we dont want.
they re immigrints just like our ansestors.
well these people dont know what there talking about.
i mean for one our ansestors had documentation. and came her ligaly and to be an american.
illigal aliens come into this country because our currency is alot of money to them. well these illigal come into this country to get money and come back to mexico.
they most likley dont want to become americans. im sorry but when you drive into a mexican neighborhood you see the mexican flag instead of the usa flag.
how do they get these jobs? well first of all they need identity. so they steel identies from other people.
( such as my sister) ruin her credit. then trash it.
then go to another one.
second how can you get a job that pays well for you but not too suspicious?
you work for lower than minimum wage. such as 1 dollar an hour.
its not they will do a better job than you. it is that the mexican will work lower than you can and still be able to live well.
explain that.
this is not a good thing and it never will be.
we dont have this problem with canada because their curency is higher than ours. thats y we have a fence on the south border.|||I love TLB%26#039;s post. The only thing I would like to add to it is I have seen many of the new immigrants and compared to the Ellis Island days it is sad. This people stepped off a boat after traveling for months to come to America. Many dropped and kissed the ground once they arrived. They were proud to be considered an American. The immigrants of today are nothing like the immigrants of that day. There is a sense of entitlement now. Like everyone owes them something. I don%26#039;t own anyone anything.
As far as those jobs you spoke about, what about our teenaged children who cannot find a job. I remember when I was young, I could go out in the morning and have a job that afternoon. Not any more. Our high school students have a hard time finding work because someone else is already doing it.
I agree saying it is a job no one else will do is a scape goat answer. People are losing their homes in America today, I am sure if they could work they would.
I work for Customs and Border Protection and Americans would be amazed at the exceptions to the laws and rules that we have to deal with. We have given our country away, and I am ashamed that we worry more about other countries and the welfare of its citizens more than we care about our own. Think about what happened in Louisiana.|||ead, watch a history channel movie, go to a history website (not a propaganda one) and find out for yourself. Because I don%26#039;t have all the time in the world to try and explain it all. Plus, you would just think I%26#039;m making it up.
Hope you do some research on it, instead of saying %26quot;deport them all!%26quot; like all these idiots.

So do I. This guy is very, very wrong. He doesn%26#039;t provide any links because there are no links!
===================================
There are a huge number of illegal aliens hidden under fake I.D.. Lots of these I.D.%26#039;s are going to show up later on, and they are going to hurt the American Citizens a very great deal.
Keep in mind, Congress is not funding the Real I.D. at this point, and until we do have that Real I.D., the best makers of identification in the United States is the Mexican Mafia. Those guys will steal any identity they can get their hands on, and under this administration, it is your business to get it straight. They created the problem.. but it is on you!
So it is not a good thing... participate in all the forums you can and speak your peace. Tell your reps too...
http://www.congress.org|||you are an immigrant if you are an %26#039;American%26#039;. Everyone knows and accepts that a major country like America must have immigration control but it is the attitude of Americans -at one time all immigrants- that is the problem. Immigrants are not second class citizens, they are people that want to improve their own personal/family situation. I for one cannot blame them, it is the same thing your family (and mine) did in the past.|||Ohhh, where should I start.
I%26#039;m guessing you don%26#039;t know that much about the u.s-mexico history (southwest).
If you read and find out how this all started, you will know why there are so many illegals here, why the u.s gov. does nothing about it (on purpose), how the u.s gov. started it in the %26quot;bracero program%26quot;, and why mexicans think its there %26quot;born right%26quot; to be in the southwest.
Read, watch a history channel movie, go to a history website (not a propaganda one) and find out for yourself. Because I don%26#039;t have all the time in the world to try and explain it all. Plus, you would just think I%26#039;m making it up.

Sorry I didn%26#039;t put up links, its because I%26#039;m on my SIDEKICK...not a computer, so I can%26#039;t open different windows. But again, I%26#039;m not telling you anything other then to open a books, I did not tell you what my point of views are.
I know both sides of the story very well, so I don%26#039;t need to educate my-self about illegal immigration, but for people who know nothing about the mexican-american war, the bracero program, operation %26quot;wet-back%26quot;, tready of guadalupe hidalgo, texas and the alamo....and they call me stupid? Hahaha
