what were people reactions to the Great Depression, and what were their reactions toward unemployment rates?
Preople reactions.?credit card debt
My grandmother had to travel to keep her job so my mother had to stay w/another family..and grandms would send $ for her care. My grandmother was lucky...she says they rationed everything...soup lines everywhere...women and men lined up for day labor......
Preople reactions.? loan
Not being able to find food and shelter is a feeling of hopelessness, as these are the most basic items in the heirarchy of needs. People in that day weren%26#039;t bombarded with employment/unemployment statistics as they are today. And it wouldn%26#039;t have mattered. In a pre-TV, radio-driven media, people already knew, locally, whether they would have enough work/income/food to take care of their family, and the desperation they faced was immense. This is why FDR%26#039;s efforts to put people to work in public works projects was so important - not just for income, but to supply hope. His famous quote - %26quot;we have nothing to fear but fear itself%26quot; This is also why movies and musicals with heavily fantasized themes were so popular at that time, but lost favor later - people needed hope. It%26#039;s also why, to this day, many %26quot;depression era%26quot; folks hoard food and avoid any debt whatsoever. All of my relations from that era fall into this pattern. It is also why the Federal Reserve Bank%26#039;s role is so important - maintaining a steady economy and employment levels - to avoid the calamotous events of the 1930s.
